Generate a comprehensive keyword research list for a target topic, organized by search intent and funnel stage, producing a strategic keyword map that guides content creation from awareness through conversion.
KEYWORD RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
1. Seed Keyword Expansion
- Start with the provided target topic and brainstorm 8-12 seed keywords that represent core subtopics
- For each seed keyword, generate short-tail variations (1-2 words) and long-tail variations (3-7 words)
- Include question-based keywords (how, what, why, when, where, which, can, does, is)
- Include comparison keywords (vs, alternative, compared to, or)
- Include modifier keywords (best, top, cheap, free, near me, for beginners, in [year])
- Mine "People Also Ask" style queries for each seed keyword
2. Search Intent Classification
- Classify every keyword into one of four intent categories:
* Informational: User wants to learn something (how-to, guide, what is)
* Commercial Investigation: User is researching before a purchase (best, review, comparison)
* Transactional: User is ready to take action (buy, signup, download, pricing)
* Navigational: User is looking for a specific brand or page (brand name, login, specific product)
- Flag any keywords with mixed intent and note the dominant intent
3. Funnel Stage Mapping
- Map each keyword to a funnel stage:
* Top of Funnel (TOFU): Awareness-stage, broad informational queries
* Middle of Funnel (MOFU): Consideration-stage, comparison and evaluation queries
* Bottom of Funnel (BOFU): Decision-stage, transactional and high-commitment queries
- Ensure a balanced distribution across all three stages, aiming for approximately 40% TOFU, 35% MOFU, 25% BOFU
4. Difficulty and Opportunity Assessment
- Estimate keyword difficulty as Low, Medium, or High based on the likely competitiveness of the term
- Flag "quick win" opportunities: keywords with lower difficulty and clear content gaps
- Identify keyword clusters where one piece of content could rank for multiple related terms
5. Cluster Organization
- Group related keywords into topical clusters of 4-8 keywords each
- Name each cluster descriptively
- Identify one pillar keyword per cluster that should serve as the primary target
- Note supporting keywords within each cluster that reinforce topical authority
OUTPUT CONSTRAINTS:
- Produce a minimum of 50 unique keywords, aim for 60-75
- Every keyword must have all five columns filled in (no blanks)
- Include at least 8 question-based long-tail keywords
- Include at least 5 keywords per intent category
- Flag the top 10 priority keywords with a star notation in the notes column
- Add a summary section after the table listing the top 5 recommended content pieces based on the clusters
